NACYP TRAINING/DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

(for opportunities for youth training and awards click here, for training resources click here)

NACYP does not offer a 12 month training calendar as such - we provide the support when and if our member clubs need it. All the courses we provide are run by qualified tutors, delivered in partnership with other Voluntary, Statutory and Private Sector Organisations.

All training that NACYP provide is certificated and most of the courses have recognised formal accreditation. Our training provides a range of opportunities for those working in youth work. We aim to continually review and improve the quality of provision and safe practice in our member clubs, by encouraging staff, volunteers and young people to attend our regular training events.

The learning opportunities at NACYP can be provided in-house or externally. The course lengths vary from short to long and can be distance learning or may require a portfolio of evidence. Either way, we are here to support the development of youth clubs, leaders and young people. NACYP is always able to respond to individual and groups - given the right amount of notice.

The 2008/2009 NACYP Training Programme has proved successful and has raised standards in youth work, shared best practice and extended opportunities and development for staff, volunteers and young people.

Policies and Procedures

NACYP encourages all of its members to undertake training that promotes good practise in the youth club environment.  To help promote this we ask that every club has thought through the process and, as part of the affiliation to NACYP, we ask that all clubs have policies available, or alternatively work together with NACYP to implement these, these include:

•    Safeguarding Young People (inc - Staff vetting, Confidentiality and Data Protection)
•    Health and Safety (inc - First Aid, Accident investigation prevention and Fire Regulations)
•    Recruitment - Training and development
•    Equal opportunities

NACYP has prepared overarching Policy and Procedure templates on behalf of our affiliated member clubs and have worked with 80% of our affiliated building based clubs to adopt and implement these into practice.

Quality Mark Scheme

We are promoting a Quality Mark Scheme in 2010 for our member clubs through the National Clubs for Young People, which has been endorsed by the National Youth Agency and the Department for Education and Skills.
Quality Mark (QM) is an accreditation scheme to formally recognise levels of quality in youth work. It gives clubs a mark of recognition that will boost their external profile and fundraising potential. The process of self-evaluation will also reveal areas where performance can be improved

The SAP Pack

The SAP Pack is a comprehensive guide to leading sport and activity sessions in youth clubs. It covers everything from planning a session to applying for funding, including ideas for getting young people involved and integrating the activity with wider personal development.
